Salem Moravian Band will depart for America on Sunday, 5 July 2009 to participate in the 23rd Moravian Music Festival at Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, North Carolina. The tour group consists of 21 players, including the director, and 3 parents. Being a small band by our normal standards, the band has had to re-invent itself for the purpose of this tour. Judging by the performance at our first concert in Bridgetown Moravian Church in Cape Town, on 27 April 2009, our efforts proved to be successful.
The festival takes place from 19 to 25 July 2009, and before then, we will be having a number of concerts on our own. Our first confirmed concert will take place in the Fellowship Moravian Church in Brooklyn, New York City on 8 July 2009. It is however possible that the first concert will be held in the Bronx on 7 July 2009. In Bethlehem, PA, we will play a joint concert with the Bethlehem Municipal Band, as well as one or to concerts of our own. We will also play a concert in Lititz/Lancaster. Then we move to Winston-Salem where we will play a concert on 17 July, and a second one at Salem Square on 18 July 2009.
The band will arrive back home at the Port Elizabeth Airport at 14h55 on Monday 27 July 2009.
